Additionally you don't need to download any programm and you don't need to make any additional account. Also you can use the same profile for MP and SP without issues.
No it doesn't work like that, but if you install the multiplayer mod, you can still drive together. your friend has to play singleplayer untill he/she does own a truck, than install mp mod from ets2mp.com and you two can drive together. you may want to tell her/him your start city (where your first garage is) so he/she can pick the same one.

A multiplayer version would only work with AI traffic that is rock solid when crashed into, So trolls can't ram them out of place, but only get damage. aside from that right now the single player AI traffic is just not good enough to work in a Multi Player setup.
