Finally when I switched to the blue Joy con being player one for some reason that worked and I was able to play dr. Mario 2 players but even still tennis doesn't work I see no options in game for 2 players but it says in the details that it's a two-player game.

Also, all you have to do in most games is starting the game with detached joycons and press SL and SR (joycons shoulder buttons when sideways) on both controllers when the ask for it. It displayed a screen with an “x” through the joycons and said exactly that- not all TVs can display two player. It’s odd.
Connect your Joy-Con to the Switch itself rather than to the controller grip. This forces you to play in handheld mode, but a direct connection like this should not encounter syncing failures
